General Studio Questions

We welcome everyone interested in exploring ceramics. Wheel throwing typically requires some coordination and strength, so we recommend ages 8 and up for term classes. Children under 8 are welcome to join with a supervising adult for a safe and enjoyable experience.

RTC offers a personalised wheel-throwing experience in a well-equipped, welcoming studio. Our space includes:
10x Shimpo RK3E pottery wheels for smooth, precise throwing.
Two sunlit rooms designed to inspire creativity.
Spacious workbenches for hand-building and sculpting.
Slab rollers for hand-building projects.
A large wash basin for easy cleanup.
Limited clay storage racks for in-progress work, subject to availability and studio capacity.
Everything you need for a seamless and immersive pottery experience.

We use Stoneware Clay (PB103), which is smooth, versatile, and beginner-friendly. We believe in using high-quality materials to ensure the best experience for all students.
All fired pieces are durable, dishwasher-safe, oven-safe, and microwave-safe, undergoing a careful process of trimming, bisque firing, glazing, and a final firing at 1265°C with a 20-minute soak to enhance their strength and longevity.
Class & Scheduling

We understand life gets busy, but that shouldn’t stop you from exploring your creativity. To make ceramics accessible, we offer classes at various times:
We offer:
Weekdays– Term classes on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings..
Weekends– Term classes in the morning and Introduction to Ceramics classes in the afternoon.
Our flexible schedule is designed to easily fit ceramics into your routine.

We understand that life happens, and sometimes you might not be able to make it to your scheduled class. Don’t worry—there are options to keep you on track!
Make-Up Classes for Term Students
If you miss a session in your 6-week term class, you may be able to schedule a make-up class (subject to availability).
Let us know in advance – If you can’t make your scheduled class, please email or message us as soon as possible.
Coordinate with Richard or another instructor – We’ll do our best to find an alternative session.
Join an alternate session – If space allows, you may attend a different session that week.
Please note:
Missed classes cannot be refunded, but we’ll always do our best to accommodate.
Studio Access sessions are another great way to practice and catch up!

Work Collection & Firing

When can I pick up my pieces?
All Introduction to Ceramics pieces will be ready for collection approximately 4 weeks after your class.
Why does it take 4 weeks?
Ceramics is a detailed process! Your work goes through:
Trimming & Finishing – Our team carefully trims and applies finishing touches to showcase the best of your work.
Bisque Firing – The first firing strengthens your piece.
Glazing & Final Firing – We glaze your pieces in your chosen finish and fire them again at 1265ºC + 20 min soak.
Storage Policy
Finished work must be collected within 3 weeks of notification.
You'll receive an email reminder when your pieces are ready.
Unclaimed work may be discarded after this period.

Yes! We offer both bisque and glaze firing for external work.
Before dropping off your pieces:
Review our Studio Firing Policy for guidelines on clay types, glazes, firing temperatures, and preparation requirements.
Complete our Studio Firing Drop-Off Form prior to bringing in your pieces.
